Setup
Place the board showing an island. Each player chooses a spirit (e.g., Lightning, River) and takes their spirit board, presence tokens, and power cards. Shuffle the invader deck and place the fear tokens. Place the blight card and island board. Each player starts with 4 energy and 3 presence on the board.
How to Play
- The game has rounds (each with growth, spirit phase, and invader phase).
- Spirit phase: gain energy, play power cards (fast or slow), and use innate powers.
- Invader phase: explore (add new invaders), build (add buildings to explored lands), and ravage (attack; land blights if you can't defend).
- You can target invaders with power cards before they act (fast) or after (slow).
- Fear cards are earned by causing fear (killing towns/cities).
- Destroy all invaders in a land to make it healthy.
Winning the Game
You win by reaching the terror level (based on fear) and eliminating all invaders (towns and cities) on the island. You lose if the blight card flips (too much damage) or the invader deck runs out. Cooperative win/loss.
Variants & House Rules
Jagged Earth expansion adds new spirits and badlands. Branch & Claw adds wilds, disease, and beasts tokens.
